Ian Otero’s double-digit bass

Ian Otero of Lafitte, La., caught this 10.58-pound bass on June 6 from a pond in Fern Springs, Miss., during a two-day trip with his friend, Reed Creppel. He used a 6th Sense Crush 50x crankbait.

“In a random pond I had not caught a fish all morning and Reed caught a few 5-8 ounce bass, nothing special at all. Right as we’re about to leave, we decided to take a few cast on the side of the pond with not much structure that we hadn’t fished. I tied on a 6th Sense Crush 50x crankbait for the first time ever so I can cast further than I could with my speed craw. About 20 casts after tying this on I cast as far as I could towards the middle roughly 40-45 yards between three sticks. Within two seconds, BOOM, a smooth sideways swipe. At this point we still thought I had on my personal best becuase I’ve never even caught a 3-pounder. We thought this was gonna be 3-4 pounds, then after another three seconds he gets stuck in one of the sticks for about 5 seconds. The fish then jumps out the water and we realize this is a serious fish. Our jaws dropped and Reed dropped his things. I slowly worked the fish in and he jumped out the water so high at least 3-4 times, the last time being right as Reed was about to lip him. We put him on the Googan scale and came in at 10.58 pounds. This was a once in a lifetime experience. These are truly the memories you’ll never forget. I would like to thank my friend, Reed Creppel, for bringing me on this trip.
