Texas pro Todd Faircloth remained in the lead of the Wisconsin Bassmaster Elite Series event after three days, but he was a mere 7 ounces ahead of Alabama’s Aaron Martens with one day of fishing remaining.
Faircloth’s three-day total was 47-11, and Martens had accumulated 47-4 during the Mississippi River event.
“I think I’m in contention to win,” Faircloth said. “I’m in the right areas; I’ve seen some big fish.” […]
Texas’ Todd Faircloth jumped into the lead of the Bassmaster Elite Series event being held this weekend on the Mississippi River on the strength of a nearly 18-pound second-day bag of bass that was anchored by a 5-pounder.
“That’s the key here. I had a 5-pounder, today and that makes a big difference when you’re talking about mostly 2- and 3-pounders,” Faircloth said. “When you catch a fish like that in an event like this, it takes all the pressure and load off you.” […]

Toledo Bend was a bit tougher for Bassmaster Elite Series pro Brent Champman today (June 9), giving up only 16 pounds, 5 ounces. But that was enough for the Kansas pro to maintain the lead going into the final day.
His third-day sack of bass gave Chapman a total of 59-14, but he said he was a bit worried with the falling weights his spots yielded today. […]

Brent Chapman slapped 25 ½ pounds of bass on the scales of the Bassmaster Elite Series tournament on Toledo Bend, pushing the Kansas pro from 11th to first place during the second day of competition.
The heavy sack pushed Chapman’s two-day total to 43-9, and he said he caught numbers of quality fish today (June 8).
“I threw back a 17- to 18-pound stringer today,” Chapman said of his day on the water. […]
Talk leading up to the Bassmaster Elite Series tournament on Toledo Bend centered around whether the lake could produce as well as it did last year, when Dean Rojas put together more than 70 pounds to win the event.
Mississippi’s Cliff Pace removed any doubt today (June 7) that the now-full lake would scatter the fish. Pace put together 23 pounds, 2 ounces to take the early lead in the tournament. […]
Brandon Palaniuk was the last angler to launch his boat for the Bassmaster Elite Series stop on Bull Shoals Lake in Mountain Home, Ark., yesterday (April 19), and he was the last to weigh-in, but his Day 1 finish was first with a catch of 21 pounds, 9 ounces. That included the big bass of the day.

Nothing short of a heroic effort Saturday could have knocked Ish Monroe of Hughson, Calif., off his lead of 13 pounds, 11 ounces in the Bassmaster Elite Series Power-Pole Slam on Lake Okeechobee.
Meet Chris Lane, almost-hero. He brought 31 pounds, 3 ounces to the scales Saturday (March 24) and put it up against Monroe’s 18 pounds, 2 ounces. The result was Monroe, 77-6, Lane 76-12.
Suddenly, after trailing Monroe from afar after two days, Lane was only 10 ounces behind. […]
