MDWFP program aimed at recruiting, retaining youth hunters and fishermen
Organizations interested in helping involve more youth in the outdoor sports can begin applying to participate in the state’s Youth Participation Initiative Program beginning July 1, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks announced.
The program was established to provide funding to educate youth in the hunting, fishing, conservation and safety. During 2010, a total of $144,999 was distributed to help fund 23 projects across Mississippi.
Under this program, state agencies, education institutions, and non-profit organizations are eligible to apply for funding. Interested parties are urged to consider projects that focus on recruitment, retention, and/or education of youth in the fields of hunting, fishing or conservation.
Projects targeted at increasing opportunities for hunting, fishing, conservation or education in any area of safety relating to hunting, fishing or conservation also are encouraged.
Applications will be accepted until Aug. 15.
