MDMR certifies state saltwater finfish records for October 2025

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources certified four state saltwater fishing records for the month of October.

Three records were set using conventional tackle. Trevor Moncrief of Ocean Springs set the record for Gulf Flounder (Paralichthys albigutta) with a fish weighing 2 pounds, 1.6 ounces. Marshall Slay Jr. of Vancleave set the record for Anchor Tilefish (Caulolatilus intermedius) with a fish weighing 14.4 ounces. Scott Thibodeaux of Biloxi set the record for Silk Snapper (Lutjanus vivanus) with a fish weighing 2 pounds, 13.6 ounces.

For youth all tackle using an electric reel, Cooper Wrightson, 12, of Ocean Springs set the record for Spanish Flag (Gonioplectrus hispanus) with a fish weighing 12.8 ounces.
