Changes proposed for Sardis crappie size and creel limits

Crappie fishermen at one of Mississippi’s best perch-jerking holes would be able to take home a higher percentage of the crappie they catch, but they won’t be able to take home as many each day under a regulation change proposed last week by state wildlife officials.

The size limit at Sardis Reservoir will drop from a 12-inch minimum to a 10-inch minimum, but the daily limit will be reduced from 20 per person per day to 15 per person. The boat limit, with three or more anglers, will fall from 50 per day to 40 per day. […]

Extravaganza has become family tradition

Billy Reynolds remembers vividly his dad leading him by the hand through the doors at the Mississippi Trade Mart in Jackson. It was something they did each August of his youth, and it played a key role in opening his eyes to the world of outdoor sports.

“Dad’s way of kicking off the hunting season every year, and he knew it was the perfect way to spark a kid’s interest,” said Reynolds of Brandon, now a 28-year-old father. “Now, it’s time for me to do the same with my oldest son, Will, who is 4. Bring the little ones to Katfishin’ Kids this Saturday

What better way to celebrate the start of summer than with some free fun? Make plans to attend Katfishin’ Kids this Saturday, June 2, from 7 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the Turcotte Lab off Highway 43 at the Ross Barnett Reservoir.

This event is free to all and no equipment is needed. Bring the kids, 15 and under, for a fun-filled day where they can learn the basics of fishing. They’ll be taught how to tie a knot, select the correct lure, bait hooks and cast. In addition, the pond will be stocked with catfish for them to try their hand at catching some fish. […]
